How to install your Alkaline Water Ionizer Machine & customizing your Filter System

Today, everyone is looking for ways to improve health and to achieve wellness. One of the methods that has been proven to be beneficial is the use of alkaline ionized drinking water machines in your home. These appliances have been proven to provide many people with improved health along with other benefits, that include feeling more energy and a more youthful appearance. The underlying principle of the device is to provide drinking water that has smaller water clusters with an alkaline pH level and a negative Oxidation Reduction Potential or -ORP.

What are some of the uses of alkaline ion water systems in your home?

This devices is used to separate the minerals in water by separating them by their positive and negative charges in what is called water electrolysis. This allows for two streams of output, one acidic, the other alkaline. The alkaline stream is suitable for drinking. The ionized water molecules cluster together in smaller cluster sizes than are present in tap or bottled water and other filtered water types.  This gives ionized water one distinct benefit of “micro-clustering” which makes it easier for cells in the body to absorb the water molecule clusters, this allows ionized antioxidant rich water to re-hydrate cells faster than other water. The acidic water output is great for cleaning and disinfecting, it can be used outside the body on the skin where you want to kill bacteria or treat a skin conditions naturally.

Where can you install your alkaline ph ionized water system?

Typically, the device will be placed on the counter top and connected to the faucet with an included adapter. The adapter is basically a two way valve that lets you send water directly down for washing dishes or into the system where it is ionized. Once the tap water enters the ionizer it is separated into two streams by the electrolysis process.  In most types of water alkalizers the alkaline ph water is dispensed from a spout on the top of the machine while the acidic ph water comes from a drain line at the bottom of the unit. You will essentially place the unit on the counter top next to the sink, connect it to the faucet, and drop the drain line into the sink.  Whenever you use the ionization machine there will be two kinds of water that come out of it, alkaline water from the spout on the top of the machine and acidic water from the drain at the bottom.  There are two streams because when the water is ionized inside the machine between the plates the minerals in the water are separated into their alkaline and acidic fractions and you are given both alkaline water and acidic water at the same time.  All alkaline water machines work this way, the minerals are separated into two streams, if you have acidic water with a ph of 5.0 the system will not work correctly, you will not be able to get a high pH of say 9.0 or 10.0 however you will be able to get low pH values of 3.0 or even 2.0 easily.  If your source water is very alkaline, say a ph of 8.5 then you will be able to get higher ph water of 10.0 or 11.0 easily but you will have trouble getting acidic water out of the machine and may only be able to get acidic water with ph of 5.0 or even 6.0  For the alkaline water ionizer system to work as it was designed you need to have ideal conditions, you will need source water with a ph between 6.0 and 8.0, the closer your source water is to 7.0 the better.  In the USA most tap water is a ph around 7.0, so not to worry, you probably already have the correct tap water ph.  You can buy ph testing drops that change color and test your tap water before your buy any ionizer if you like.

The best results are achieved from these machines when you have a average US tap water ph. The average tap water ph in the US is between 6.5 and 7.5  As mentioned above, it is necessary to have minerals in order to produce the ionization process, because minerals conduct the electricity that ionizes the water during the electrolysis process. There are usually more than enough minerals in regular tap water to produce high and low ph values from your alkaline water machine.  Most people have average water hardness or hard water, and for these types of tap waters there are plenty of minerals inside for the water electrolysis process to occur.  If you have soft water then you may need to add more minerals into your tap water for the ionizer to get higher and lower pH value.  You can use biostone filters which some companies sell or even buy and external mineral adding ph balancing filter.  If you are unsure about your water hardness, just contact your city or ask a neighbor if you have soft water, average water hardness, or hard water. Testing your well for minerals and pH can be helpful in determining whether the equipment will work properly in your household. The output of a well can vary significantly from one part of a country to another. It may even be different from one block to another, depending on the source of the water feeding into the well. Generally most well waters work fine but you may need to check the well water ph and hardness.  If you are getting soft water or acidic water from your well you may need to add minerals to the source water for the alkalized water machine to work correctly.

Can you use it with reverse osmosis water?

Yes, the effects of reverse osmosis removes harmful elements from your water, purifying the water that the reverse osmosis produces. Using a reverse osmosis or other water filtration system on the water before it goes into the ionized water system is a good idea so the electron rich water that you receive is purer and healthier for consumption. In areas where your water is very hard, which means it contains an over abundance of minerals, water purification before the water goes into the machine is recommended so the water that is very high in mineral content does not clog the filters contained within the machine causing often filter changes resulting in an added expense. If you also live in very large metropolitan area you may want to get a reverse osmosis or other filter and “pre-filter” the water before it enters your water alkalizer machine.  This will not only give you healthier drinking water, it will give you a longer filter. When you remove the minerals, as happens in the distillation process, the alkalized water machine cannot work since there are no minerals in the water to conduct the electricity for electrolysis to occur. Distilled water requires minerals to be added for the ionization process to work. So, the short answer to the above question is no, distilled water cannot undergo electrolysis. No tap water is distilled though, so this will not be a problem unless you have a water distiller. If you have a water distiller, you cannot connect your water electrolysis machine to it.  You can however, once the water is distilled, add minerals back into the distilled water, then run the mineral rich water into the water ionization system.  This will give you the purest water possible but the process is very wasteful.  Water distillers themselves waste alot of water, then the ionizer also creates waste water, so you will be wasting a large amount of water in this process.  However it is possible to use distilled water as long as you add minerals into the water once it has been distilled.
